When Your Mother Calls You Home is in the hands of beta-readers right now and is on track for its official release at Midnight on October 31st or... I could also say... November 1, 2025 at 12:00 a.m.

This date holds SO much magic and significance.

The Celtic Festival of Samhain, Catholic/Christian traditions of All Saints' Day, All Hallows' Day (thus All Hallows' Eve or Halloween), Hallowmas, Feast of All Saints, Feast of All Hallows, and Día de Muertos all take place on November 1st when, purportedly, the veil is thinnest between the world of the living and those in spirit (great time to petition the saints!). It also happens to be the 44th Saturday of the 44th week, National Awakening Day (Bulgaria) AND... it's National Author's Day?!? So, given the themes of my book... I don't think there's a more supportive day on the calendar to release this story from my hands.

The Kindle pre-order link is live today which feels like the first of many hurdles/blessings and I'll announce hardcover pre-sale information soon. Softcover available 11/1.

By the way... That image up there at the top of this message is the art for the hardcover book jacket and I'd like to tell you a little bit about it.

I briefly considered painting the cover myself because I could see it in my mind and I knew exactly what I wanted but didn't trust my skill (good call). One night, while I was searching "the commons" (art that is in the public domain) for inspiration, I saw THE ONE. As soon as I saw this image I knew it was the cover. For starters, it was reminiscent of my daily view in Rishikesh, India... the mountain, the bridge, and river. It captures the feel of the soft, hazy landscape there. The original work, is by a prolific artist named Samuel Prout, and as fate would have it, on the journey I document in this book, I followed in his footsteps... wondering over the same art and architecture that captured his imagination nearly two centuries earlier in London and Venice. Adding to the kismet, this original work of art is housed in the collection of my favorite museum in my home state of Ohio... The Cleveland Museum of Art.

Because this work is in the public domain, it is permissible to alter it (digitally of course). I flipped the image on the horizon and applied a digital wash to evoke the ethereal color and haze of the Ganga River in India. Here is the original work, with proper credit to the artist, as well as the institution and donors that recognized it's value:
